"Keating does not mould the light to stress forms but to give plasticity to the enigma of the vision and of man’s memory. The faces are so infringed, naked in their inwardness, kneaded, puzzled, aching, hung and curdled, that they meet the old's eyes questioning about life and death; bodies giving up to our eye rough, rising, strong and frail, muscular and deathly pale more than luring, in the idleness of the offering to senses and sleep, primary realities where obsession of life meets with obsession of death. From everyday life these bodies participate in an immemorial "classicness" and at once they come back into the days' foam, in the wounds of life, in a handful of dust. In fact they bear symbols of offering between the sheets, from lilies to apples. Keating gives us also definite "still-life" with luxuriant and thick pulps, sensual and rising containing the whole ancient tradition of the sacred offering typical of the genere and its moral function of revelation of the transiency of beauty, of the implacable corruption of time."
